@polisheats: Did you know one of Chicago’s most legendary bowling alleys has been owned by the Lapinski family since the 1960s? Located at 2646 W. Fullerton Avenue in Logan Square, Fireside Bowl first opened in 1941 and became a neighborhood gathering place for generations of Chicagoans. In 1966, Rich Lapinski and a partner purchased the bowling alley. By 1971, Rich became the sole owner, and the business would remain in the Lapinski family for decades. Here’s where the story gets interesting! In the 1990s, Rich’s son, Jim Lapinski, helped transform the bowling alley into one of Chicago’s most legendary underground punk-rock venues! Bands like Fall Out Boy, Alkaline Trio, and Sleater-Kinney performed at Fireside Bowl before becoming widely known. What started as a neighborhood bowling alley became an important part of Chicago’s music history. 🇵🇱 And the Lapinski family name? Its Polish roots add another fascinating connection to the history of Chicago’s neighborhoods. The best part? Fireside Bowl is still open and owned by the same family. Did you ever bowl at Fireside or attend one of its legendary punk shows? Do you remember the Lapinski family?
