@pagingdrfran: the internet tells you it’s supplements and body monitors and minerals that keeps you healthy…and it’s actually all the boring things, like getting your hearing checked, that will help you live a long and healthy life. @AgeWellWithDrSteph was on #IDidMyOwnResearchPodcast and shared this information about hearing loss, and I think it’s just so important that we shared it again at the Women’s Health Summit. you deserve evidence based information about ACTUAL ways to live and age well #hearingloss #dementiaprevention #agewell #evidencebasedmedicine
this is not meant in a snarky or sarcastic way....then insurance companies need to start paying for hearing aids because a lot of people cannot afford them

So we should lobby for hearing aids to be covered by healthcare insurance because it is not at this time

50 could be too late for some millennials. My husband just got his first pair at 38. It changed everything for him. Best decision we ever made

My Mother's hearing was perfect. She died from Alzheimer's. She had it nearly 20 years ... next. Every single thing I've read or heard, oh don't do this, don't do that, this is what causes Alzheimer's, if you do this you won't get Alzheimer's, if you don't do this you'll get Alzheimer's. It's all just a crap shoot.

How does this factor in deaf people who are born deaf?

Does insurance cover this or is hearing another thing like eyesight and having teeth that medical insurance doesn’t deal with?

Living in Rochester I am curious about any research about these risk factors for deaf people. Are they higher risk for dementia because they have hearing loss or lower risk because they didn’t lose stimuli, their brains adapted to grow without that specific type of stimuli? 🤔

Look this is truly so important for people to know and I actually quite recently rambled on about this very topic to a coworker, but I NEED that other woman’s shoes… Also, fun fact: Costco will replace your hearing aids free of charge as a one-time service to their members if you lose them.

Too close to home. I’m 56. Last week I saw an audiologist for vestibular issues. She ran a hearing test which I promptly failed. She had me make an appointment to get fitted for hearing aids. I’ve never thought I had hearing loss. I didn’t know about the correlation to dementia to which I already have increased likelihood due to head injuries. Thank you for putting this out there

I worked as a medical scribe for a neurologist and this was one of the top risk factors we educated patients about along with diabetes as a risk factor.

But CMS offers no benefits for hearing aid devices… which is very on par for our healthcare system. 🤨🤯😡

I’ve been deaf in my left ear since I was two, after a mastoidectomy. So I guess I’m just guaranteed to get dementia??

What if you have hearing problems due to neurological issues? I just went to the audiologist this week and my hearing is “normal.” That means it’s neurological and I have no idea what to do.

I was talking to someone recently how we used to get hearing tests as kids but it's not part of regular exams anymore. I can get my eyes checked (which isn't even covered under medical insurance) but where do I go for hearing screening? That seems like something my pcp should be able to offer

How does audio processing affect demencia? Hearing is fine, but there’s a delay in processing & responding to the information
