Quality and flavor is mid. Combine that with the price for the mid food, and you get a bad food culture in my opinion. I come from California (Bay Area and SoCal), and they just have such amazing Asian and Mexican food that is so affordable and you get a lot. I have yet to find anything here that's comparable. The portions here are stingy. I find that the asian and Mexican food here is toned down for a white palette. Italian food here is sooo mid. It's just not worth it here.

From NC. Personally, the food is bland. But after doing research, I learned that it’s because of the heavy influence that the Scandinavian and Nordic immigrants had when they moved here in such large numbers. I don’t think Seattle has a horrible food scene, I just think the scene is overpriced for the quality/quantity. That and the fact that every time we say we didn’t enjoy something, they tell us we just aren’t going to the right places. Or that we have to search for the the right places. Why we gotta go on a 3 day quest to find good food?

Our Southern and BBQ food scene is not all that great outside a few standouts (gotta make the drive to Tacoma for good southern food) and our Italian/French food scene is just OK. However I think when a lot of folks say Seattle food is bad, they’re just saying they don’t like fish orAfrican and Asian cuisines, because our seafood and various cuisines (particularly our Ethiopian, Senegalese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese) are some of the best in the country IMO. We also have the best salmon and oysters.

combination of: hit or miss, consistency, service, and price the food scene was solid 15years ago, but I do feel it started to become stale/one-note. but I def think we're headed back in an upward interesting & diverse trajectory - especially outside seattle

not enough fat and flavoring, meat often dry, overall just everything feels really inconsistent and hit or miss and so much of it is overpriced

i’m from texas socal and the bay and listen the food here is just like any other but the places you find here if you sink are top tier just like most cities. i think people get mexican or southern (within reason) food here and compare that to other cities and call it mid. take seafood boils, we have a very easy asian seafood boil not a louisianan seafood boil. apples to oranges

Definition of hit or miss. In my experience if it’s not seafood, African/Caribbean, or Asian, it’s probably a miss but also very overpriced.

It’s just the type of food out here that’s really good is Asian food with Mexican food really coming up lately. teriyaki was pretty much created out here so if you don’t like that then the food scene ain’t for you

The relative availability. I moved to Seattle from a bigger city, and while there is good food here, it's fewer and farther between. So like if I'm craving really good pupusas or jollof rice and okra soup or nasi lemak, there definitely are spots, but there's not really a lot of options, and often the places can be far away
