When you reach a certain amount of tiredness and exhaustion, the last thing you need is a long ass nap, I quick 5-10, maybe 15 min nap is what your body needs to catch up. Because in that nap we will reach a certain amount of deep sleep that our body doesn’t need long term (full night of sleep) but only need for a quick minute. So when you oversleep in a nap after exhaustion your body reacts differently compared to when you get a longer stretch of normal sleep.

It’s because of where you wake up in your sleep cycle. When you sleep a whole night, you go through multiple rounds of sleep cycles and you naturally wake up in the lighy part of it when you get a full amount of sleep. When you do not allow yourself to go through at least one complete sleep cycle you’re more likely to wake up in a deeper part of the sleep cycle, which is disruptive to your body. It’s also why naps aren’t really rejuvenating if you weren’t sleeping enough in general. Because your body is trying to speed run the sleep cycle so you actually fall into a deeper sleep sooner when you’re napping or not allowing enough time to get full rest.

I think it’s because our bodies are used to sleeping at a certain time and when we nap our bodies are thrown off? 🤔

yes actually it has to do with sleep cycle and rapid eye movements sleep! we dont take the time to fully adjust into the cycle of REM and NREM, therefore we wake up in the mist of half deeply asleep and half deeply awake. from a psyc student byw

Because our core body temperature follows a 24 hour circadian rhythm which causes it to be lower at night time and higher during the day. So when you have naps during the day because your core temperature is naturally higher it causes you to sweat, where as at night its lower and you may not get sweating like you would with a nap

Michii 💗 :
It has to do with your circadian rhythm which is ur 24 hour clock that your brain stem lives by and basically when you nap for too long you disrupt that cycle and in some cases in that nap you’re waking up during REM which is a stage in your sleep cycle where your heart rate rises and dreaming occurs. When you wake up during that it causes confusion and sweat. But yeah that’s only in some cases

it means you’ve woken up during your deep sleep cycle which causes grogginess because your brain hasn’t had enough time to pump out adenosine

OC story :
Ok so basically we go I to half sleep and then full sleep when you wake up from full sleep you will feel fine because you had both but when you wake up from a nap you only reached the half sleep and you brain was expecting to go into full sleep and is shocked as to why it went back to being awake (this is the scientific explanation without the big fancy confusing words)

You aren’t getting all 4 stages of sleep just up to stage 3 sleep which is the reason you get like that
