Been feeling like I’m losing my edge lately, just realized it may be because I’m not teaching like I used to. I’m an ai solutions architect and used to teach a class full time, now I build for myself and feel burnt out. Gonna try some teaching and see how it goes thanks to this video. 🫡

But this is why I’m so annoying it’s like I’m always trying to explain things to ppl (and I want it in reverse too like explain things to me too)

This is why I never gatekeep my learning at work. Teach everything you learn and you are forced to simplify complex problems, get to the root of concepts, and thus synthesize better in your own mind. It also gets you in the mode of continuous learning

We use this mantra a lot in medicine with trainees or patients. The teach back method. “See one, do one, teach one”.

100%. I stand by this philosophy— you’re only an expert in the subject if you can teach it.

I could teach almost anything to almost any group of students with almost zero preparation.

You can do this with tasks, tell someone what you want them to do and how you would do it then ask them to read back the notes and process as if they are instructing you

I worked for a woman who had been a theatre nurse many years ago. She said they would ‘watch one, do one, teach one’. So they always learnt with the knowledge they would have to pass the skill on (under supervision) soon.

I did this throughout my studies because i thought that i could understand the concept relatively well from the start, but could not articulate it good enough for it to sound like i know it, so i practiced “transferring” knowledge to my very well educated grandpa who always use to ask me questions about my studies in order to check how well i am doing. Cool to hear it has a name!

The thing is, my brain knows it’s fake, so unless I’m actually will be teaching someone the material, then I can’t trick myself into doing it, because I know I won’t have to teach it later. And it’s a bit hard to find a willing victim to teach 24/7 😅
