@mosheh: A teacher and a father of two students both helped stop Thursday’s deadly elementary school shooting in Bend, Oregon, Police Chief Mike Krantz said Friday. Police say the 16-year-old gunman shot through locked school doors and opened fire inside a special-education classroom, killing three boys, ages 5, 8 and 11, and 25-year-old teacher Megan Lambert. He used to attend Silver Rail Elementary School, where he was a special-needs student. Kaylub Giamanco, a carpenter whose two daughters attend Silver Rail, was driving past when he saw the gunman fire at a pickup truck. Police say he pulled into the parking lot, retrieved his legally secured handgun and followed the shooter inside. A teacher threw her cellphone at the gunman, tackled him and tried to wrestle away his shotgun. Giamanco entered during the struggle and shot and killed him. The teacher “almost certainly helped prevent more bloodshed,” Krantz said. Giamanco’s brother told NBC News he doesn’t consider himself a hero and feels guilty he couldn’t save more people. A 7-year-old girl remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition. A 54-year-old teacher suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Source: Bend Police, NBC News
