@theimeu: In September of 2023, Palestinian rapper MC Abdul left Gaza for San Francisco to record an EP. A month later, Israel launched its genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, killing the majority of Abdul’s extended family members. This is the story of how Abdul left Gaza: a story reflected in the lyrics of his new album, “Day by Day (شوي شوي),” out now. Israel controls the borders of Gaza illegally — and over the course of its genocide, it has used that control to starve Palestinians by blocking food, deny Palestinians access to medicine, and prevent Palestinians with serious medical need from leaving Gaza to seek treatment. But Israel has oppressively controlled Gaza’s borders for decades before the genocide, too, trapping Palestinians inside Gaza by denying them the right to leave for scholarships, work, medical care, or to see family. Abdul, now 18, knows that his story is a rare one, and he’s grateful to be alive to tell it. Stream MC Abdul’s new album, “Day by Day (شوي شوي),” wherever you listen to music.
