people keep saying that “they changed jason’s backstory”, but if you ask me- the original never even gave us literally ANY details about jason childhood. nothing was changed, all they did was add to the story.

Supernatural Serial Killer vs Science Experiment Gone Wrong Serial Killer. Yeah, two completely different flavors. This Science Experiment gone wrong seems more a setup for a comic book villain. Did I enjoy the new series? Yes. Was it technically better planned & written? Yes. Would I STRONGLY prefer a supernatural Jason? Yes.

The lore is just made up as they go. In particular, Jason Goes to Hell was not originally a F13 movie. The original movie fell through and they reused the script. That's how the possession angle just came out of nowhere. It was never meant to be a power Jason had. I haven't watched the show yet, but the lore is "whatever we feel like".

For everyone in the comments. this is NOT a direct prequel to the original. So yes technically they are right. it isn't the jason from the original timeline. The events that happens in this do not line up with the first movie

Honestly I love it, this show actually was amazing it felt like a friday the 13th film to me the characters and the acting I love it and hope it keeps going

I like his backstory and overall the series was fine. I think it took too long to explain his origin and although I guess the mom was a killer bc her protection instinct was heightened, it’s kinda silly that she killed all the hippies. I wish they spent the first four or so episodes explaining the backstory and then had a few episodes of Jason and his mom killing (in that order).

I don’t really care the story changes it’s bound to happen what makes me mad with this series is this being the first major Friday the 13th project in years and it didn’t even feel like Friday the 13th it felt like rated r strangers things which is the problem. Every major horror franchise is just slowly making their material more like stranger things. Jason doesn’t need to be a half cockroach boy who’s been experimented on his whole life and I never watched Friday the 13th wondering about the extents of Jason’s backstory or relationship with people that’s not his mom. Honestly if they just made it a completely unrelated Jason show it’s be a pretty good show.

I don’t like it, but I kind of understand why they changed it because they don’t want to dehumanize people . The message is still there,but not really kind of. he’s an experiment , not natural but to me by theory she keeps getting resurrect because his mother . it kind of takes the supernatural part away from him . But still, it’s different versions of Jason from different writers. It doesn’t change the original Jason we all grow up with. it’s like comparing the OG Michael Myers to Rob Zombie Mike Myers.
