@valleybreezenews: NORTH PROVIDENCE – A front yard on Smith Street is attracting the attention of passers-by this spooky season, with dozens of skeletons of every shape and size, along with other ghouls and pumpkins, greeting visitors. The house at 1374 Smith St. is owned by Matt Cook and his fiancé Domenica Barsoian, and it is the couple’s first year decorating the property. A historic five-bedroom structure, the house was built in 1904 and is known as “Maplehurst” or the Herbert B. Farnum House, according to a plaque from the North Providence Preservation Commission. “We bought the property about a year ago, so this is our first Halloween,” said Cook. “We’re trying to bring some of the holiday spirit into the neighborhood.” “It’s mostly Domenica,” Cook added. The graveyard-themed display features skeletons in a variety of positions covering the lawn and spilling over a rock wall onto the sidewalk in front. Bony figures appear engaged in activities, crawling, climbing, sitting and hovering across the yard. Barsoian said she visited five different Michael’s Stores as well as Walmart and Halloween specialty shops to acquire items. “A lot of the stuff is homemade,” she said. Skulls and bones sit atop handmade columns, archways, and fencing built with PVC piping, put together with help from Barsoian’s mom, Sandra Barsoian. “Even the grim reaper is homemade,” said the first-time Smith Street decorator. The couple used a bucket truck from Cook’s business, North Eastern Tree Service, to hang many of the lights in a display that took roughly two weeks to put up. “I think the most enjoyable thing about it was actually making it,” said Barsoian, noting she’s also enjoyed watching her neighbors’ reactions. “That’s what makes it fun.” “We encourage people to stop and feel free to take pictures,” she said.
