As a teacher and a mother, I will 100% put myself in front of danger to save someone else’s baby every single time and i genuinely hope and pray someone would do the same for my baby.

It never hit me so hard until my son’s 1st grade teacher brought this up on their back to school night, that she will protect our kids with her life. Shes in her late 70s… what tf has this world come too…

As a special education teacher myself, I definitely didn’t sign up for this, but I know I would put my life on the line to protect my students.

I honestly think the answer is to severely punish the parents of the shooter. If the parent could face life in prison or even the death penalty, they will make DAMN SURE their mentally ill kid never goes anywhere NEAR a firearm

I remember growing up that my teachers didn’t have to think of sacrificing themselves at work to take care of us kids. We had ONE lockdown my entire educational expert and it was a drill after columbine. This has become far FAR too common.

I was a child during Columbine and I’ll never forget that day… now I’m a mother and somehow have to worry more about the state of our country and sending her to school? It’s too much and our children deserve so much more 🥺

My mom is a teacher and survived a school shooting in 2011. I’ve told her I’m scared every time she goes to work to this day…she’s told me if it ever happens again and the shooter came into her classroom, she would lay on top of her students to protect them if it came down to it. At this point, most teachers know they may lose their lives to save someone’s child every day when they go to work. May they all rest in peace and thank you to everyone who stepped in 🙏🏻

I bet she was CPI or similar trained. I wonder if the teacher knew the gunman? like was she his teacher, since he was in that class as a student in the past.

This isn’t what I signed up for when I first became an educator but I know I would put myself between an intruder my students. It seems like an easy thing to say; however, I’ve been part of what, thankfully, ended up being a false lockdown, and I put my students where they were very hard to reach and put myself much closer to the door. That being said, people obviously talk a lot about being scared to send their kids to school, because those are the mass shootings that seem to hit the hardest, but there are mass shootings EVERYWHERE! The same way people are now afraid of roller coasters but deadly car accidents are far more common. I’m not saying that I’m not worried, but I’m also not planning to avoid leaving my house, because what kind of life is that anyway?

because I am a mom and I would pray someone would do the same for my own child. I have always said it when you hand me your child in the morning that baby is mine I will do my best to keep them safe as if they are my own.

Fun fact. When I was starting teacher education I was told it may be a good idea to have a will just in case. I was 18. A only child who just wants to share her love of history and teach and change young lives. As a 18 year old that was a lot. I broke my mom’s heart when I told her. For a minute there was push back to go into education. I’m an only child. Megan Lambert is my age. I cannot imagine what her parents are dealing with.
