@12onyourside: The family of 9-year-old King Overton filed a wrongful death lawsuit Friday against SwimRVA after the boy drowned on his first day of summer camp in Henrico County. National civil rights attorney Ben Crump has joined the family’s legal team and was in Richmond for the filing at the John Marshall Courts Building. According to the family’s attorney, King’s mother enrolled him in the SwimRVA camp to learn how to swim and told staff on June 15 that he could not swim. That afternoon, he drowned.
I’m not saying the Mom did anything wrong, but I hope others learn to not ever expect anyone else to watch your child around water. It only takes a second for something to happen. Especially don’t expect lifeguards to watch your child. There’s too many kids for a lifeguard or anyone to be able to watch a large group of kids. Don’t trust anyone to do it for you.
