@successisus: This week, New Orleans made history. 🎉🙌🏾 The Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine just received preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, officially clearing the way to start recruiting its very first class of students for 2027. Born from a 2024 partnership between Xavier University of Louisiana and Ochsner Health, it’s now the nation’s fifth historically Black medical institution — and the only HBCU medical school anywhere in the Gulf South. 🩺 This moment was years in the making. The college earned candidate status back in October 2025, hosted its official accreditation visit in June 2026, and has now crossed the biggest hurdle yet. “We are not simply opening the doors of a new medical school,” said Xavier University president Reynold Verret. “We are expanding who will have the opportunity to become a physician, strengthening the communities those physicians will serve, and helping to shape the future of healthcare for generations to come.” 🤍 A brand new door, open for the next generation of Black doctors.
