@foxnews: A rare brain-infecting fungus that can kill up to 7 in 10 patients is being detected more frequently across the United States, and researchers say even healthy people are at risk. The CDC reports that detections of Cladophialophora bantiana, a dangerous black mold capable of infecting the brain, nearly quadrupled between 2023 and 2025 at one major laboratory. Even more concerning, about half of infections occur in people without underlying immune system problems. Doctors are now being urged to watch for the infection as researchers investigate what's driving the increase. The fungus can be difficult to diagnose, even with standard medical testing.
