@pagingdrfran: Preparing for a baby moon? Here are 5 things you should know before boarding - Talk to your ObGyn about travel. Your medical and obstetrical history may guide when you choose to travel and how far. Examples of conditions that may change your plans include a history of preterm delivery, a known placenta previa, and conditions like current IUGR or pre-eclampsia. - Verify the flying policy for the airline, and ask your OB for a pregnancy verification letter. Many airlines require proof of your due date as they have gestational age cut offs, so if you look visibly pregnant, you’ll save yourself a lot of hassle at the boarding gate - Know where the nearest hospital is that has a labor & delivery, and what level of NICU they have. Even if you currently don’t have any risk factors, you never know what can happen. You’ll want to know where you need to go if something happens, and what that hospital’s capabilities are. Knowing there’s a hospital there isn’t enough, you want to make sure they have an L&D. - Wear compression socks while you travel, and get up and move around on long flights. Being pregnant puts you at increased risk for DVTs and pulmonary embolisms, and so does travel, so keep the blood moving! I tell my patients to get up every 2-3 hours. - Pick the aisle seat if possible! Trust me on this one… #babymoon #pregnancytravel #pregnancytips #travelwhilepregnant #flyingwhilepregnant
