What would you do if someone gave you a gift at a dinner table of 15 ppl, but nobody else had a gift for you? How would you handle opening/receiving that gift?

I love this. Was sent to a finishing school when I was younger and it was great fun. But, we were taught above all, be gracious, thoughtful, intentional and kind.

Can we talk about the lack of thank you notes and hand written notes nowadays? I recently got the society listing (social register) for my city and a girl who I know was listed and it made me laugh because she never sent thank you notes for her wedding gifts. So rude.

Being the person who makes everyone around them feel welcome and comfortable and seen is so much more valuable than being the person who knows which fork to use. That’s a master class in hosting.

I feel like it’s amazing to know etiquette but it doesn’t mean you have to use it all the time. Like everything else (the way you dress, talk) should be adapted to the people you’re with 😊 Like you said making someone feel welcome is so important

About the dinner scenario you used as an example, I thought that if you'd genuinely like to teach someone etiquette rules that they're unfamiliar with, while having that social fluency you're talking about, you can find a way of doing so in such a manner that wouldn't make them feel uncomfortable.

Growing up, my parents, and specifically my mother, stressed table manners and etiquette so much. I remember being at a significant milestone wedding anniversary party for my best friend's parents. I was sitting next to my mother. I handed her the gravy boat or something that had a handle, but I didn't do it properly. I was probably in my mid 20s and my mother still corrected me on the spot. I did the same with my children. As I've said before, I'm old enough to be your mother. Sadly, I feel like teaching manners and etiquette have disappeared with the younger generations, at least in the US.

I watch a lady of the night if not perhaps the most notable of all midnight ballerinas (which might instead be myself…) who complains how much her customers brag about their education… in a way she feels privileged to have the high earnings she has because of that overall reality but yeah important an critique of the common type of customer in her most historical I suppose customer service reality indeed!💯
