As a Texas middle school teacher thank you. People don’t realize that at the start of every school year we have to sit through in almost 2 hour presentation about school shootings and how locked doors can keep us safe. Our classroom doors have to be locked at all times. On top of the beginning of the year training that we go through we have drills throughout the whole year lockdown drills, whole drills fire drills tornado drills all of the drills but the one that gives the kids the most anxiety is the lockdown drills. Now for context, I am a special education teacher. I work at self-contained classroom. Most of my things either have AU or ID. Those are their disabilities. We have to put them in a bathroom with all the lights out most of them required noise, cancellation, headphones, or other accommodations such as light. Do you think we’re allowed to have the lights on? We are not. So imagine trying to keep 20 or 21 students with either AU or ID quiet in a completely dark bathroom yeah it’s rough but you know everybody else on this app wants to come on here and say how teachers are failing and doing all the wrong things. If you think you can do a better job come and do it because I’m tired. But like Mr. global stated God forbid your child be exposed to a drag show but welcome to the world of the United States, where they get to do lockdown drills every month
