@the.mr.rich: Australian teenagers aged 15 to 17 spend an average of more than four hours a day on screens outside of study. And fewer than one in ten meet the recommended daily limit. We can't expect kids to sit still, concentrate, regulate their emotions and engage with learning if we're giving their brains unlimited access to the most stimulating entertainment ever created. #school #education #screentime #teachersoftiktok

Well teachers could actually teach instead of getting kids to do their own “research online” then maybe we would be in a better position. Doesnt get any better once they go to uni either.

In special ed, parents don’t seem to see the same behaviours we see at school BECAUSE they are on devices at home. Not regulated, but distracted.

There’s a difference between using it as toy or using it as learning tool.

could you just get rid of using computers in school. go back to paper and pen. make the kids use a library not a lap top to research. treat bullying like it should be. punishment of the bully not the victim. encourage emotional intelligence by showing kids they are not going to be rewarded for not doing anything to an acceptable level

I've also said the curriculum has to support the reduction too. I teach year 5/6 and next to every math and English assessment asks for some form of multimodal or technological solutions. I'm then also told that students who cant write need to type, which adds another layer for that student to get distracted on their device. I've had to confiscate several and informed leadership that due to technology misuse, they will be writing it which circle's us straight back to issue of students cant write. 🤦🏽‍♀️I just dont want them in the my class.

l somewhat agree but can l also say it really depends on what they are watching. l'm am pretty sure my sons at least hour on YouTube with his learn to play the saxophone and music videos is not the issue. We need to put more if a focus on what they are watching more so than time as often screens can give kids an amazing opportunity to access areas in the art which are typically very expensive to engage in outside of school.

The hardest thing is the parents (me) have seen that the pathway to a good/great future isn't because of an extensive school based education. 15 years of education have got us nowhere. Having high enter scores have got us nowhere. A high academic performance got us a lot of debt and unable to have a wage that means we aren't struggling. We just want our kids to be happy.

For parents as well! Listen to your child, talk to your child, give them your time and put your phone away!

Interesting. Our kids have more screen time at school than home. Let’s stop leaning on YouTube to teach your classes and go back to basics.

Ok but stop giving us homework that has to be done on a screen like decodable reading. I put the iPads away during the week and hate having to bring them out for them to do their homework/reading. Send them with normal books!

I seriously think what you do on devices matters. I used to think all screen time was bad, however I haven't noticed any significant difference with my third who gets a solid like 4 or more hours screen time a day. if anything he's more sociable. but I dont let them scroll on anything. they have a Nintendo switch. and the tablet only has access to a few basic games and some learning games. they still choose to put them down and colour or play with toys instead. when other people let them scroll reels I do run into problems where they scream for the tablet or dont want to do anything else
