the first thing I would tell this guy as a response to his idea is that there's a lot of people that are in between jobs, and not by choice. we have been told not to say bad things in interviews, like I was fired, I was laid off, I quit, so we are told to basically say we're in between jobs to make us look like we're not flighty or of poor quality. if you're going to disqualify that, then you're pretty much disqualifying most of the people that are even going to come apply for your company. plus there is no guarantee that somebody who isn't in between jobs is going to be top talent. the top talent might have left a bad company and is out there ready to be taken, and yet the person not in between jobs is the low quality talent that's coasting through a toxic workplace and finds a way to stay comfortable. think about that

I’m between jobs. I left my job to take care of my sick wife, and am in the position where I haven’t needed to go back yet. I’m not quite retired, but I’m not working. But I’m also a 30 year career tech leader and a business owner, and this guys take sucks so much.

There’s an epidemic of business men who think displaying a lack of empathy will make them come across as more successful than they actually are. It’s really gross and I’m sick of this type of dude poisoning every company they touch.
