Nothing in this world is free. International relations are built on mutual interests, not charity. Countries cooperate because both sides have something to gain. Somaliland stands to benefit through job creation, foreign investment, economic growth, and new revenue. In return, the United States or Israel could gain strategic access to the Indian Ocean and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. That is how international politics works: every country pursues its own interests, and Somaliland has every right to pursue its own interests, too. So, what is wrong with the United States or Israel establishing military bases in Somaliland if the agreement serves Somaliland’s national interests? As long as the terms are mutually beneficial and Somaliland’s sovereignty is respected, there is nothing inherently wrong with such cooperation. Let’s be realistic: powerful countries act in their own interests, and Somaliland should do the same. The key is not whether there are interests involved, but whether Somaliland benefits from the deal.

Why would America use Somaliland for a military base when it already has Djibouti? Somalia would allow the United States to have a military base if it stopped them from recognizing Somaliland so there’s no point.
