@landon_signs: have been seeing some alarming videos of people punishing their Deaf children on socials lately, including a video where a person was trying to physically stop their Deaf child from signing by grabbing their hands. historically speaking, Deaf children routinely had their hands tied to desks, were forced to sit on their hands, or received corporal punishment (such as rulers across the knuckles) if they attempted to sign. my dad experienced this himself and talks about how horrible it was. the Deaf community has been punished enough. let’s publicly lift up and empower our Deaf children instead of punishing them #asl #signlanguage #sign #interpreter

Her deaf son unlocked the door for her hearing 3 year old to cross the street. You understand how scary that is right. She even mentions the fedex driver that just killed a child.

I agree, however, how many times do we tell our hearing children to zip it and not talk back?

y’all are not understanding wat he’s sayin. Telling you kid to “ shut up” is not the same as physically covering their mouth to shut them up

The people in your comments are admitting that they don’t see children, especially disabled children, as people.

Not sure why all the sudden hate against a mom...who is doing her best to raise men. a hearing & non-hearing son btw...and other creators attacking her? She shows real, honest, & raw conversations with her children...I like both y'all's content...why does it have to be a thing where you guys makes videos about other creators?

That boy is always getting scolded… & doesn’t seem like they get much warmth from her.. i dont know I feel like it’s too much of “content parenting”

it truly is no different then when my parents would yell at me and tell me to be quiet or stop talking right now cause I was in trouble. Brittany is an excellent mother. I was a huge fan of yours up until this point.

I’m an interpreter and I remember a deaf college student who was here from Saudi Arabia and his parents would tie his hands behind his back and force him to speak and hide him in his room when people came over to visit

In my opinion, it’s the public humiliation of your kids that is the real problem. Thinking back on our own childhood- imagine if your worst moments in the privacy of your own home were made public for thousands to see? That’s terrible. I do not think children should be posted online at all - they can’t consent. I really respect the parents who keep their kids off camera or blurred or covered. My kids are adults now - they grew up in the new times of FB - I was guilty of posting pictures and videos they later told me they found embarrassing. - we learn and do better. I stopped posting my kids online- even now rarely do it and not without the enthusiastic “yes” beforehand.

This also goes for people who have communication devices such as AAC devices! Taking away their device while they try to communicate, turning it off, or intentionally making it inaccessible because you don’t want to “hear” them.

I have verbal dyspraxia and my first language is sign. Even though I was in speech therapy and I have a physical voice now, I prefer sign. Teachers did a similar thing and yelled, “Why are you doing that? You can speak!” I stopped using sign language because I was berated for it. I started reteaching myself over the course of the pandemic. I’m now an autistic advocate for a university

I don’t know the influencer that’s associated with this but I completely agree. It’s like putting your hand over a kids face to keep them from talking. It’s awful.
