@ethicai_au: Accenture told staff to go AI-first, then capped their Claude spend at $29 a month. Some employees had been spending up to $1,000. Here’s what that means for AI strategy in Australian government, and why AI dependency and token costs should be on every agency’s radar before signing off a consultant’s roadmap. Turns out that saving money can be expensive when you don’t look at the downstream costs

Spoke to an ACN employee, they’re still allowed to use AI but if they go over the monthly allowance, the overages will get billed to their internal or client cost center/charge code

We built some incredible tools that delivered huge productivity benefits, and then suddenly our access got yanked, and our ability to maintain the tools with it. Then execs were confused about why suddenly productivity dropped dramatically and major projects slowed down.

Interesting example of what happens when AI might improve productivity but not value creation. Today's business models are not suited for increased productivity.

Everything about AI is unbelievably short sighted and delusional. For corporations to be playing games like this makes these business structures look like a joke. Absolutely no respect

They are using it wrong. Use ai to create tools to make work easier. Not ai itself.

Before the Accenture split and Enron, Arthur Andersen was locally famous for over-recruiting fresh graduates then culling. They still treat people like things.

This reminds me of the outsourcing of logistics, warehousing and distribution that was all the rage in the early 2000s. Entire departments were made redundant and the expectations of saving those salaries and offloading warehouse sites were huge. Until it became obvious several months down the track that the 3rd party warehouse wasn’t as efficient as the internal one had been, there was competition for services from other companies using the same warehouse and errors increased significantly. The answer was to create a new department to manage the many problems and the people in that department needed relevant experience however now that they were classed as white collar office staff salaries were higher. Then the distribution companies slowly changed their costing from price per unit to include on costs like packaging materials, floor space, inventory management, even toilet paper and other sundries. The internal department managing the 3rd party warehouse kept growing and growing as the demand for data analytics and KPI measuring increased and before the executive team knew it the warehouse with a few office staff, floor management and a few pickers and packers had been replaced by two to three times the number of employees, all at significantly higher salaries with a consequential increase in employee costs, supplies, reports and meetings etc.
