Van :

Are we deadass she’s THE FIRST BLACK AMERICAN TO WIN GOLD AND SHE IS 22!??? Don’t get me wrong I’m very proud of her but wdym it’s 2026 and she’s the first that doesn’t compute in my brain.

cleofit13 :

How does one get into professional hockey???

mariadorakim :

I remember that she had to do a GFM to raise money so her family could support her in Italy. I was so happy to see her win gold.

soso 🇸🇻🇨🇦 :

It’s proof of just how inaccessible so many sports are. The a reason why sports like soccer and basketball are so diverse is because you can play them with any ball and a makeshift net. These other sports cost thousands and thousands to get opportunities. Same goes for academia. It’s unfair how many geniuses and star athletes that have very likely been never discovered purely because of a tax bracket.

And the biggest part of this is how even the lowest leagues of hockey impact players of color!! I did a video essay on this for class young black men and women with promise futures will drop the sport because even in their youngest years the racism is just SO strong!
