@bthediva: “Light and airy” influencer Natasha Thasan accuses Maitreyi Ramakrishnan of using her saree draping concept even though it’s existed for hundreds of years. Same Natasha who encourages white women to wear saree is the same person gatekeeping South Asians 😂 Can’t make this up! #southasian #saree #maitreyiramakrishnan #influencer #foryoupage
They reached out to her to collab, she turned them down!

I don’t entirely agree with Natasha’s video but I do also think people are taking it as if she’s saying she invented saree draping when that’s not the case lol
The custom designer did credit her style on insta and pointed out that she was used for inspiration, but after she refused to collab with them they should’ve used a design that wasn’t directly inspired by her since she wasn’t on the team. Morally it’s wrong to do and speaks loudly about their character in a negative way. It’s a messy situation but there’s a huge lack in understanding when it comes to people actually knowing what the issue is.

When she said “I hate to be so negative, when I’m so light and airy”. I knew it was about to be some bullshit.

Historians trace saree-like clothing to the Indus Valley Civilization, around 2800–1800 BCE (roughly 4,000–5,000 years ago). Early versions were long pieces of unstitched fabric draped around the body

She might've popularized it for the west, b/t that draping style is still going strong in plenty of South Asian countries. Multiple Bollywood films have had actresses that wore blouse- less sarees for years. And I've seen plenty of women from different regions in India wear this style for various events.

Thank youuu! This was so annoying. Blaming/attacking Maitreyi is ridiculous. She’s an actor doing her job. If you have a problem with the movie, direct it at the creators, not the actor. Although, honestly, none of this was even necessary. 😒
