@godonlyknowsrecip: EATING WELL WITH HEART DISEASE ❤️🍽️ Heart-friendly meals can be colorful, comforting and full of flavor! Save this 5-page guide for food choices, simple swaps and TWO savory recipes. Your overall eating pattern matters. Work with your healthcare team to personalize portions and any sodium, fluid or other limits. 🥦 FRUITS & VEGETABLES Berries, apples, oranges, bananas, leafy greens, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, bell peppers and sweet potatoes. 🌾 WHOLE GRAINS Oats, brown rice, quinoa, barley, whole-wheat pasta and whole-grain bread. 🫘 PROTEIN CHOICES Beans, lentils, chickpeas, tofu, salmon, trout, skinless chicken and plain low-fat yogurt. 🥑 HEALTHIER FATS Olive oil, canola oil, avocado, unsalted nuts and unsalted seeds. Portions still matter! 🛒 SIMPLE HEART-SMART SWAPS * Compare serving sizes and choose less sodium, saturated fat and added sugar. * Use olive or canola oil in place of butter. * Limit fatty processed meats and coconut oil. * Choose whole grains, beans, fruits and vegetables more often. * Bake, roast or grill instead of deep-frying. * Flavor food with garlic, lemon, herbs and salt-free spices. * Choose no-salt-added or lower-sodium canned foods. 💧 HAVE HEART FAILURE? Ask your team for your sodium and fluid goals. Fluid restriction is not automatically needed for every type of heart disease. 💚 ALSO HAVE KIDNEY DISEASE? Some food choices and portions may need adjusting to your blood tests. Ask before using potassium-based salt substitutes, especially with kidney disease or medicines that affect potassium. 🍋 LEMON-HERB SALMON WITH QUINOA & BROCCOLI Serves 4 • No added salt Ingredients: * 1 lb plain salmon, cut into 4 portions * 2 cups cooked quinoa * 4 cups broccoli florets * 2 tbsp olive oil, divided * 2 tbsp lemon juice * 2 garlic cloves, minced * 1 tsp dried dill * ¼ tsp black pepper 1. Bake salmon 12–15 minutes, or until the thickest part reaches 145°F on a food thermometer. Time varies with thickness. 4. Warm quinoa until hot. Divide salmon, quinoa and broccoli among 4 plates. TIP: Choose plain fish without added brine. If you have kidney disease or diabetes, ask about protein, potassium and carbohydrate portions. 🫘 SMOKY CHICKPEA & SPINACH SKILLET With brown rice • Serves 4 • No added salt Ingredients: * 2 cups cooked brown rice * 2 cups no-salt-added canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed * 1 can (14.5 oz) no-salt-added diced tomatoes * 1 red bell pepper, chopped * 1 small onion, chopped * 2 cups baby spinach * 2 garlic cloves, minced * 1 tbsp olive oil * 1 tsp pure smoked paprika * ½ tsp ground cumin * ¼ tsp black pepper 1.
