@alnglobalnetworkofficial: New York has declared a state disaster emergency because of the growing measles outbreak in the United States. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the order on October 5, and it will remain in place until November 4. By October 3, New York had reported 108 measles cases this year across 18 counties, mainly in rural areas with low vaccination rates. The order makes it easier for people to get vaccinated. Pharmacists can now give the MMR vaccine to children aged two and above. The vaccine protects against measles, mumps and rubella. Paramedics and midwives can also give the vaccine, while nurses can order tests for people suspected of having measles. Nearby Pennsylvania has reported more than 1,000 cases this year, its biggest outbreak in about 30 years. Nearly 200 people were hospitalized, and five deaths have been linked to the disease. Across the US, around 4,000 cases have been reported this year, the highest number since 1991. At least 95% of cases involved people who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown. Measles spreads very easily and can cause serious problems, including pneumonia, brain swelling and death. Early symptoms include fever, cough, a runny nose and red, watery eyes. A rash usually appears later, starting near the hairline. Two doses of the MMR vaccine are about 97% effective against measles. Experts say around 95% of people need vaccination to prevent outbreaks. However, only 92.4% of US kindergartners received the vaccine in the 2025–2026 school year. The US will also face a decision in November on whether it keeps its measles-free status.#BreakingNews #
