When I became a substitute I made a choice that if anything ever happened while I’m there I would die trying to take down a bad person. I would always look around the room I was n for that day and make a plan for if something happened . Always be ready , sadly .

Had a conversation with my husband the other day, that being the only teacher without kids to go home to, I will put my life on the line first. We should not be having these conversations, kids should not be in danger in their place of learning, and something needs to change.

Could you Imagine working up the courage to send your baby to school, knowing the horror stories, doing all the things to make your angel safe just for them to be ripped away...I spent every day he was at school in the parking lot screaming at myself for being hypervigilante...mocking my PTSD and anxiety and Ive never been so horrified to be validated in my worst fears.

My 9th and 10th grade science teacher once told us on the first day of school that he would do anything to save us if there was a school shooter. Every year on the first day he does a walkthrough on what the class would do if there was that kind of situation. I’ll always have a great amount of respect for him
