I was up at 2:51am last night and I was crying. Like actual crying. Not the cute little single tear running down your cheek kind. 😂 The baby had been up forever. I had tried feeding, rocking, bouncing, shushing, changing her diaper, walking around the room, standing still, sitting down, standing back up because apparently sitting down was deeply offensive. You know. The usual 3am Olympics. 🫠 And eventually I hit that point where I wasn’t even really upset about ONE thing anymore. I was just tired. So tired. Tired of being needed. Tired of guessing what she wanted. Tired of looking at the clock and calculating how many hours until morning. Tired of knowing that even if she finally fell asleep, I would probably lie there listening to every tiny noise she made anyway. 😭 And this is the part nobody can really explain before you have a baby. You can love your baby more than anything on earth and still have a moment where you’re like… I cannot do one more minute of this tonight. Both things can be true. ❤️ So I’m sitting there in the dark, holding a crying baby while also crying myself, and I looked at my phone. A mom from Pennsylvania had sent me a hug. Then I noticed another one. Switzerland. SWITZERLAND. 😂 Like somewhere across the actual ocean, another mom was apparently awake in her house doing her own version of this exact nonsense and took two seconds to basically say, “hey, I see you.” And for some reason that completely got me. Because nothing about my situation had actually changed. The baby was still awake. I was still exhausted. There was still spit-up on my shirt. I still had approximately zero idea what day it was. But suddenly I didn’t feel quite as alone. I opened the map and there were little lights everywhere. Moms awake feeding babies. Pumping. Rocking. Probably sitting in dark nurseries staring at their phones thinking, HOW ARE YOU AWAKE AGAIN. 😅 And I had this weird thought. We’re all doing these nights separately. But we’re also kind of doing them together. There is a mom somewhere making a bottle right now. There is a mom pumping while her partner sleeps next to her. There is a mom holding a baby she is terrified to transfer into the crib. There is a mom who has already attempted the transfer twice and is currently questioning every decision she has ever made. 😂 There is a mom eating cold leftovers at 3am because she forgot to eat dinner. There is a mom crying because she misses who she was six months ago. There is another one crying because she feels guilty for missing who she was six months ago. And there are so many of us thinking we are the only ones struggling because nobody posts THIS part. The dark room. The messy bun. The giant water bottle. The nursing bra that has basically become formalwear. The moment where you whisper “please please please sleep” to a person who cannot understand a single word you’re saying. 😂 Motherhood can be so freaking lonely for something millions of women are doing at the exact same time. That’s the weirdest part. You can feel completely alone while hundreds of other moms are awake doing exactly what you’re doing. So yeah. A stranger in another state sent me a little heart on my phone at 2:51am. Another one came from another country. Such a tiny thing. But when you’ve been awake for hours and your baby is crying and YOU are crying and the entire world feels asleep? Tiny things aren’t always tiny. 🥹❤️ Sometimes all you need is proof that somebody else is awake too. Somebody else gets it. Somebody else is sitting in the dark thinking, “holy shit this is hard.” And somehow that makes it a little easier to make it to morning. 💛 #mom #baby #momlife #MomsofTikTok #momtok
