The story follows Bruce Wayne, voiced by Kevin Conroy, as a mysterious vigilante known as the Phantasm begins targeting Gotham's criminals while Batman is blamed for the killings. At the same time, the return of Andrea Beaumont, a woman from Bruce's past, forces him to confront the life he might. At its heart, Mask of the Phantasm is as much about Bruce Wayne as it is about Batman. Through his relationship with Andrea, the film explores the personal cost of his promise to fight crime and the happiness he sacrifices to keep it. Kevin Conroy’s performance, the film’s dark atmosphere, and Mark Hamill’s Joker give the story an emotional weight that helped make it one of the most celebrated animated interpretations of Batman.
