🇧🇫 BURKINA FASO TURNS PRISONS INTO PRODUCTIVE CENTRES! Burkina Faso’s lawmakers have approved changes to a law allowing more prisoners to serve their sentences through community work instead of staying in prison. Since 2024, over 4,000 people have served community sentences. Prisoners also produced over 1,014 tonnes of grain in the 2026 rainy season, helping meet the prisons’ food needs. The new law expands community work to include farming, construction and skilled services. Some prisoners serving long sentences may also qualify if they show good behaviour. Justice Minister Edasso Rodrigue Bayala says the changes aim to reduce prison overcrowding, help prisoners reform and allow them to contribute to society. 💬 QUESTION: Should more African countries adopt this system to help prisoners learn skills and give back to their communities?
