@news24: The Mpumalanga government spent R14.9 million on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s one-day imbizo in Ackerville in March 2024. Nearly three years later, the water is still undrinkable and many title deeds have not been delivered. Pensioner Fannie Magale has not registered for the 4 November elections and says he will not register again until someone follows up on the promises made. They need to change how the write the idp and budget because these people just right they are doing infrastructure and provide reports that might not be accurate so they need to attach a ward to its budget and detail fully in an itemized manor so that people can see where the money is going

Executive Mayor Vusi Nhlapho :
It is a shame that mainstream media continues to push a one-sided narrative. While you are quick to revisit issues raised in 2024, there is little to no reporting on the progress made since the Presidential visit. What about the roads that have been repaired, the new clinics that have been built, the water maintenance interventions and the other initiatives implemented by Emalahleni Local Municipality to address the very challenges you are highlighting?
A true journalist understands the importance of balanced reporting and the right of reply. Yet, you have not even reached out to the municipality to establish what has been done, what progress has been made and what challenges remain. How can you report on these issues without giving the municipality an opportunity to respond?
We are not denying that eMalahleni still faces challenges. However, reporting exclusively on the problems while ignoring the interventions and progress made creates a misleading picture of the situation on the ground. The public deserves to know not only what went wrong, but also what has been done to address it.
Journalism should inform the public through facts, fairness and accountability, not selective reporting. Revisiting issues from 2024 without investigating subsequent developments raises serious questions about the balance and intention behind this coverage.
If the objective is to inform the public, then present the full picture. The people of eMalahleni deserve journalism that acknowledges the challenges while giving equal attention to the progress and solutions. When you report only one side of the story without seeking the municipality's response, it becomes difficult not to question whether this coverage has an agenda.
