I was also reorganized from Grade 5/6 to Grade 7. It’s a brand-new class with surprisingly low numbers—just 19 students! Although the transition was unexpected, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to build a strong, positive classroom community and make the most of this school year.

its ridiculous...Education system in Ontario is a joke...September is a wasted month of review work because of the threat of reorg

This is very interesting. In Alberta we do not do re-org. Sometimes they may just add a split class by the second week. But nothing like this.

Are parents complaining about this? If my child had to get a new teacher 6 weeks in I’d making some noise. Especially in the primary grades. AND, how do they expect teacher to pivot to a whole new grade level years from what they were doing? I have all my grade one resources ready to go. When would I prepare for middle years content?

Admin should’ve known we didn’t need a 0.8 in June last year. We reorganized and lost 1.2 in September and two teachers had to leave/partially leave the school. It would’ve made way more sense to start the 0.8 as an LTO

And this is why when parents complain about pd days and say “why don’t they do them over the summer?” Because I could be teaching something completely different in October

It’s almost like the Ministry wants us to fail…boards send in their enrolment numbers in the Spring and continue to update throughout the summer…schools know the amount of staff they need ahead of September and yet (at least in my board), they don’t believe us and then students and staff get uprooted all because the board “finally has the proof” they need to make a decision…in October…😑

I'm sorry but that is insane and I have been doing this for over 25 years. I could see going from one grade to another within your division but man, that is a giant leap! You are a better person than me. I think I would have quit on the spot.

I'm shocked that they would switch you in your 15th year. Our reorgs are often extreme but they would shift up or shift down. So a grade 1 teacher might go down to FDK or up to 2, but they would never move to grade 6.

I was too, an hour away to an existing class. I found out the day before and had 2 days prep. The lto was upset and the students were upset I was taking over. So was I. I put my heart into my classroom and program. Unfortunately the school I left has now surpassed the number of students originally counted. Those classes are now overflowing. Students on extended vacation were not considered even though returning. Because they weren’t there for an early ‘bum in seat’ count they didn’t count. This is so wrong for teachers and students. Class sizes are out of control all to save a salary.

I’m genuinely so curious and confused. Why does this happen? Is this normal? Is it worse this year than previous years? Sorry for my ignorance, I don’t work in Canada.
