On Day 4 of the Faith Hedgepeth murder trial, the jury heard her roommate's 2012 police interview. Hear what Karena Rosario told the officer. I want to be exact about what you are hearing, because it is easy to get wrong. This is State's Exhibit 17, a recorded interview Karena Rosario gave police in 2012. It played in open court in Durham County Superior Court while Bryan Walker, the State's phone examiner, was on the stand on direct examination by the State. He laid the foundation for the recording and the court let it in with no objection. The voice you hear is not his testimony. It is not sworn testimony from her, either. It is what she told an officer in an interview room in 2012, and this jury is hearing it 14 years later. Faith Hedgepeth was a UNC student in 2012. Karena Rosario was her roommate, and she is the person who found her. Miguel Enrique Salguero-Olivares is on trial on the charges in Faith's death. He is presumed innocent. I am not the jury and neither are you, and only the jurors decide this case. the recording she takes the officer through it in order. She says she walked out of the apartment late at night without her key or her ID, and that she did not go back into the bedroom first. She says the TV was off and she calls that strange, because the two of them usually slept with it on. The next morning, she says, Faith did not pick up. "I called her at least 14 times." A friend drove her back. She says she turned the knob and the door opened, and she tells the officer what she assumed when she walked in. Then she is describing a call for help, and what she said into the phone: "can you please hurry up." Near the end she says it plainly. "The whole situation doesn't make sense." The officer does not leave it there. He takes her back to the night before and has her go through leaving the apartment a second time. Listen to that second pass next to the first one. Here is what I am asking, and I am asking it from the record this jury has, not from a hunch. Karena Rosario already testified in this trial. Now the jurors have her 2012 account too, in her own voice, given to police and never given under oath. Does it match what she told them from the stand? She says the door opened when she turned the knob. What does an unlocked door mean for this case? Both sides have this recording now. Tell me who it helped: the State or the defense. #truecrimetiktok #miguelsalgueroolivares #faithhedgepethtrial #faithhedgepeth #truecrimetiktok
