November is a very emotional month for me because it is Prematurity Awareness Month, and this month will forever hold a special place in my heart. I became a mother to two tiny fighters when I delivered my twins at just 25 weeks. Two babies who weighed only 1 pound 7 ounces, who entered this world far too soon, and whose first five months of life were spent in the NICU. I never imagined motherhood would begin this way. I never imagined learning to love through incubators, celebrating milestones that others might take for granted, or praying for things as simple as a good day. What people don’t always talk about is the mother behind those NICU doors. The guilt, the fear, the hopelessness, and the emotional battles that come with watching your babies fight for their lives. I remember feeling like I had failed my babies. Like my body had failed them. Like I had somehow failed my husband and our family. I felt helpless watching my babies go through things I couldn’t take away. I wished I could trade places with them. I wished I could somehow make everything better. And through it all, I had a husband who stood beside me, even through the moments when I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. He held me together when I felt like I was falling apart, reminded me that we were in this together, and loved our babies just as fiercely through every setback and every victory. We were learning how to be parents while simultaneously learning how to survive the NICU. There were days I questioned myself, days I felt broken, and days when being strong was the last thing I felt capable of doing. But those two tiny babies taught me what true strength looks like. Today, I get to look at my babies and see just how far we’ve come. The little hands that were once surrounded by wires now reach for mine. The tiny bodies I once prayed would grow strong are now growing, laughing, learning, and filling my world with so much love. Prematurity changed me forever. It changed my motherhood journey, my perspective on life, and the way I see even the smallest victories. To every NICU parent, every premature baby, and every family still living this reality: your story matters. Your babies matter. And you are not alone. I will forever use my voice to spread awareness for prematurity. I will share our story, honor the battles we fought, and advocate for the tiniest babies who deserve the biggest chance at life. Because November may be Prematurity Awareness Month, but this will always be personal to me. Spreading awareness isn’t something I’ll do just once a year. It’s something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. Happy Prematurity Awareness Month. 💜 #prematurityawareness #preemiestrong #preemieparents #incompetentcervix #pprom
