I think Sam has a very different story to tell about him than Deb does. I think the alcohol made him a very different person and he's aware of that now. He definitely made mistakes and had an issue with alcohol but I'm not sure who wouldn't after hearing about his own Mom's spiraling addiction that led to her neglecting and physically abusing him and his sister to the point of broken bones
