Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Catherine Ann Stewart, of Castlemilk, Glasgow, abandoned nine animals in July 2025: four dogs, a kitten, and four goldfish. Responding Scottish SPCA inspectors placed security tape on her front door, returning the next day to find it completely undisturbed. Inside, officers discovered rooms reeking of ammonia and faeces. The dogs were trapped in the living room and hallway without food, and the only water was in a mop bucket out of reach for her 14-year-old Pomeranian-cross, Tasha. Behind another door, a nine-week-old kitten named Blade was found crying in the dark with no food, water, or litter tray. Tasha had lost significant weight, suffered from untreated chronic heart failure, painful hindleg joints, and severe dental disease. She was later euthanised on welfare grounds. Stewart falsely claimed her sister was attending the pets and cited an internal camera. Admitting three animal welfare charges, Stewart received an 18-month Community Payback Order with supervision and an 18-month animal ban from Sheriff Joan Kerr on 5 October 2026.
