HE NEARLY BIT A MAN'S NOSE OFF IN A STREET FIGHT, THEN TRIED TO HIDE FROM POLICE UNDER A PILE OF DIRTY CLOTHES. IT DID NOT WORK. Meet 35-year-old Nathan Austen of Sittingbourne in Kent, England, and this might be the worst hiding spot in the history of hiding spots. It all started back on Friday, May 8, on Sittingbourne High Street. Police say Austen got into a war of words with another man, and it turned physical fast. He threw several punches, and when the man walked away, Austen followed him down the street toward Mill Way, where a second fight broke out. That is when, police say, Austen bit down on the man's nose, leaving him with serious injuries. Then he took off. Officers pulled CCTV footage and took witness statements, and it did not take long to put a name to the face. Three days later, on May 11, they showed up at a home on Newbridge Road to arrest him. Austen was nowhere in sight. Or so he hoped. Bodycam footage shows officers picking through a cluttered flat until they noticed a pile of clothes on the floor was moving. Underneath it? Nathan Austen. Officers pulled him out and put him in handcuffs. He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and pleaded guilty. On Monday, October 12, a judge at Maidstone Crown Court sentenced him to three years and one month behind bars. The investigating officer summed it up perfectly: he may have thought he could dodge justice under a pile of laundry, but the officers were not fooled. Rate this hiding spot from 1 to 10. We will wait. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. #CrimeTalk #TrueCrime #NathanAusten #Kent #England
