CCTV appears to show a champion Afghan boxer wheeling a suitcase allegedly containing the dead body of a British charity worker who was later found in an abandoned building. Sharif Ahmadzai is suspected of killing Elisabeth Jane Ross, 38, and dumping her in an abandoned Athens house in on July 16. The 26-year-old is also accused of using her bank cards to withdraw thousands of euros and her phone to send messages to friends and relatives for days after her death. In the footage, Ahmadzai appears to casually wheel the bag through town looking like a normal tourist. Around 13 minutes later he is spotted emerging from the derelict site in Kypseli without the suitcase and rucksack. Ms Ross’ remains were discovered by a homeless man wrapped in a bin bag and stuffed in a suitcase. Police said that initial medical reports suggest Ms Ross, from Edinburgh, died from asphyxiation, but they are awaiting toxicology reports. Ahmadzai’s wife, Alaina Hall, from Georgia in the US, is understood to have given police key evidence against her husband when she became suspicious, he was involved. The couple’s website states that his father, a military commander in Kabul, survived six assassination attempts before being shot dead in a Taliban ambush when he was four.  Some five years later, Ahmadzai’s older brother was kidnapped by the Taliban and, when he was 15, his mother, brother and sister were killed in a suicide car bomb. Ahmadzai, the website claims, had to identify the remains of his siblings. Ahmadzai is then said to have hired a people smuggler with the aim of reaching Britain where his aunt lives.  The Times reported that he reached Lesvos on a small boat on his third attempt and has written a book about his experiences titled:  From Hell to Home: How loss, exile and hope built the man I became. Ahmadzai met Hall, a devout Christian, at a migrant camp where he was working as a translator. He converted to Christianity in 2017 and they married in April 2023 and set up a ministry helping refugees in Athens under the name Love Every Nation. The couple are said to have met Ms Ross through their work. Ahmadzai, a competitive boxer, won a Greek super lightweight boxing title in March and ran boxing classes to raise money for the NGO. The gym he trains in is across the road from where Ms Ross’s body was found.
