PART 2: STOP DEFENDING BAD BEHAVIOUR IN THE NAME OF CULTURE, VALUES, AND RELIGION! 📍 Chinar Market, Khwazakhela, Swat, Pakistan 🇵🇰 I went to Chinar Market simply to buy a karahi cooking pot. I was accompanied by a student from Swat who was helping me navigate the market. I went into Chacha’s shop, asked permission to record, and received permission from him and the other gentleman, whom I believe was his son. While attempting to film a selfie video at Chacha’s shop, a man came from another corridor. He approached us three times, repeatedly walking around us with an angry expression and shouting, asking why I was recording females. The third time he came back shouting at me, I decided to record for my own safety. The video was shown to other men around us for clarity. Several people explained to the man, in his own language, that I had not recorded any females, yet he continued shouting. By the time he returned again, I felt increasingly intimidated and frightened. I did not know what he might do next, and his body language made me fear that he could physically assault me. I was frightened for my life, and to me, calling the police was the best decision for my safety. Also because he had been shouting so loudly from the beginning, people began gathering around us. I was worried that they might believe his accusations without hearing my side of the story. Later, I was told that the man was known as a problematic person in the market. When the police arrived, his tone of voice changed. My own tone also changed because I had reached my limit with the disrespect, and I wanted to challenge him to shout at the police officer in the same way he had been shouting at me. LET ME ADDRESS SOMETHING IMPORTANT. You are entitled to your opinions, and you are free to decide whose side you believe. However, please do not confuse one person's behaviour with an entire culture or religion. According to some Pakistani people, women should not be recorded, and I respect that and agree. However, not all women feel the same way about being recorded. Some women give their consent to be recorded, while others do not mind and use social media as usual, posting videos of themselves. If you see any females in my posts, it is because they have given their consent. If a woman's face is clearly visible in a video, it will be covered. RESPECT MUST WORK BOTH WAYS. If someone has a concern, there is a respectful way to approach them, explain the issue, and listen to their response. No culture or religion should be blamed for one individual's behaviour, nor should it be used to justify intimidation or disrespect. We can respect people's beliefs while still holding individuals accountable for how they treat others. This experience genuinely upset me. In that moment, I said I would never return to Swat because I felt hurt and disappointed. I have many Pakistani friends whom I consider family, and I have experienced so much kindness and hospitality from the people I have met. Of course, I will continue exploring and visiting Swat and all of Pakistan! ❤️🇵🇰 And by the way nobody is paying me to promote Pakistan. I do it because I love this country. The bad behaviour of one person does not represent an entire country. Good and bad people exist everywhere. People are waiting for me in Lahore, Punjab, Quetta… 🤍 Sharing what happened to me is not an attempt to damage Pakistan's image. A country's reputation is not protected by asking people to hide difficult experiences; it is strengthened when we can acknowledge them while recognising all the good that exists, too. We can all learn from these experiences. The police resolved the incident, which, by the way, happened the day before yesterday. The case was closed, so there is nothing else to say or investigate. I wish that person all the best and blessings, like everyone else. PAKISTAN ZINDABAD! 🇵🇰❤️ #S#Swatfyp #Pakistan #P#PashtunCultureRespect
