@jerseycityart: Route 36 in Long Branch is completely shutting down until next spring for a huge $8 million bridge project. We're talking about Joline Avenue at Troutman's Creek, near Florence Avenue. This bridge has been there since 1941 and is completely worn out. But this isn't some giant river crossing. The actual bridge is only 35 feet long. So why does a 35-foot bridge take 9 months and $8 million to replace? Because they're rebuilding it from the ground up. Crews have to drive over 5,000 feet of concrete piles deep into the earth, pour new foundations, and install a brand-new water tunnel. They're starting this fall and plan to reopen everything before Memorial Day 2027 to dodge the busy summer traffic. Westbound drivers will detour onto Atlantic and Bridgeport. Eastbound drivers will use Liberty to Atlantic. Pedestrians and cyclists will detour down Liberty, Seaview, and Long Branch Avenue.
