a local brewery bought apples that had been adjacent to a wild fire. the flavor of the ash was sucked up during the remaining growing season. the apples were harvested, blended, and made into a hard cider. it was like drinking a grilled steak. it was a wild experience.

People are so quick to say the food is fake like somehow it’s cheaper for corporations. Big Apple is not trying to scam people. Now, we are starting to get data showing a real change in the nutritional make up of foods due to both climate change and industrial farming. That can alter the taste of food.

This is the problem. People will say “food doesn’t do this thing it’s supposed to do” but they don’t know WHY it does that. They think “oh animals just eat food we leave out” but don’t know the diet of the animals or how their foraging/hunting season has been that year if the native species would recognize something from another part of the world as the same food they’re used to. It’s so infuriating.

Most of these people don't know what real food looks like or how it behaves. Even those of us who grew up near farms and with big farmers markets understand that veggies and fruits behave different in different situations. She had an apple she is not use to. People are weird.

as a Washingtonian I grew up in school learning about genetic altering of apples because it's huge here doesn't mean that there's chemicals in them. they're bred specifically like crossbread to create a different type of apple that does different things. some that are sweeter some that are more tart some that withstand certain temperatures better and I just thought this was like common knowledge
