I teach in a classroom like that. It hit me that a decade ago we would have had an emergency all staff meeting so that admin could announce some new kind of security theater policy. Now we may get an email reminding us to only use the front door. We’ve given up on the theater that’s how numb we’ve become to it. That’s not even getting into the massive amounts of money paid to private security consulting companies that largely do nothing to make people actually safer.

As a recently retired elementary teacher, I am heartbroken and angry and exhausted. So much evil and corruption. Charlie Kirk felt the same way, having said it was a small price to pay. And then he was shot and killed. I am so disgusted with our country, and with so many ignorant people here.
