@theventure: We only post about the world's greatest founders! Morris Chang got into chips over one dollar. After he failed his exam at MIT, he had job offers. Ford's research centre in Detroit offered $479 a month. Sylvania, which made transistors, offered $480. He nearly took Ford, and phoned to ask for more money. His first call was collect, and Ford wouldn't accept it. He called again, and the manager told him Ford did not haggle. He could take the salary or leave it. Chang wrote in his memoir that he had tried to be clever and it backfired. Embarrassed and angry, he took the Sylvania job. Twenty years later, a retired Ford executive joined the board of Texas Instruments. He told Chang that if he had gone to Ford, he would probably still be stuck in its research department. Follow @theventure for the greatest founder stories ever told!
