My partner and I just tell each other throughout the year the big splurge items we feel we can’t justify purchasing for ourselves to be added to the other’s gift list. We don’t get each other every thing that gets mentioned but it helps us know that we always have one or two things ready to go for the occasion.

Our house rule is no buying anything for yourself a month before your birthday or Christmas. Even for the kids!! Meaning they can’t ask for anything immediately. It goes on the list.
