What Am I Holding On To? Written by Kandie Angel I tried to walk away before, But something called me back. I tried to walk away once more, And still fell off the track. Every time I loosened my grip, Life gave me one more reason. Something changed, something needed me, And leaving felt like treason. So I stayed when staying hurt me. I stayed when I felt done. I kept believing maybe someday I’d remember who I’d become. I’ve carried pieces of this life Long after they grew heavy. I’ve told myself a thousand times, Just breathe, you’re almost ready. But ready never seems to come. There’s always one more thread. One more memory pulling at my heart, One more voice inside my head. And I’m painfully aware of it. I know something has to change. But how do you leave a life you know For one that feels so strange? How do you walk away from years That helped make you who you are? How do you know which pieces to keep And which have left their scars? It isn’t anger pushing me. There’s no one here to blame. Sometimes the life that once held you Just doesn’t fit the same. There are people there I still love. There are memories I would save. There are pieces of the person I was I never want to change. But somewhere underneath it all, I’m tired in a way sleep can’t fix. My mind is carrying too much, And I don’t know what to do with it. My heart starts pounding in my chest. My thoughts begin to race. Everybody tells me I’ll be fine, But they don’t live inside this place. Nobody lives inside this body. Nobody feels this fight. Nobody knows how hard it gets When your own thoughts won’t quiet at night. I’ve survived things I thought would break me. I’ve watched whole chapters end. I’ve lost pieces of myself before And somehow found them again. But this feels different somehow. There’s nothing left to prove. I know I cannot stay the same, I just don’t know how to move. Because what if walking forward Means leaving parts of me behind? What if the life I’m searching for Is one I haven’t learned to find? What if I miss the old me Even though she couldn’t stay? What if becoming someone new Means grieving who I was yesterday? Maybe that’s what scares me most. There’s no enemy to fight. No single thing that I can blame. No wrong that makes this right. Just a life I’ve been holding onto Because it’s everything I’ve known. And the terrifying realization That I may have outgrown my own. I’m tired of barely breathing. I’m tired of pushing through. I’m tired of waking every morning Not knowing what I’m supposed to do. I don’t want to erase my past. I don’t want to run away. I just want enough room inside myself To finally be okay. Maybe walking away doesn’t mean I have to leave it all. Maybe some things can come with me And some are meant to fall. Maybe loving what was Doesn’t mean I have to stay. Maybe I can treasure yesterday And still choose another way. So tonight I have no ending. No perfect answer to give. I’m standing somewhere between Who I was and how I want to live. Maybe I’m not walking away at all. Maybe I’m finally walking through. Leaving behind the life I’ve outgrown To find the me I never knew. #fyp #poetry #fypシ
