@petermartin825: I want to know did anyone see the exchange just before halftime of the Florida vs Texas game. Between Jon Sumrall and Caden Jones? I have no problem when a person mess up on a play and you want to verbally chastise them on the sideline. " OK coach I heard you my bad, I messed up and I'll work on it". But because you are not satisfied trying to humiliate this grown 6'8 man, and then to grab them by the arm and then grab the jersey to hold them there, while you stroke your ego, is wrong to me. So what if the grown 6'8 man swipes your had away? Then you want to claim assault and get them kicked off the team but it's ok for you to put your hands on him. Coaches keep your hands off of the players, say what you have to say and move on, because one then players will hit back.
Man I love it Coach Sumrall been saying how this team is soft. Chew em out. Let it be known you not nothing to play with. He did the right thing. I love it.

I bet Caden would run through a brick wall for his coach right now. I don’t think we had another penalty on the OL the rest of the game. So players thrive on emotion.

Why people forget that these guys are making stupid money rn is beyond me. They are no longer college students playing sports, they are professional athletes going to college. That means it comes with getting yelled at on the sideline

if youre a parent and that bothers you to watch! then don't have kids in sports! all he had to do was stand there and listen but he insisted on trying to walk off!!! it all boils down to respect! every great coach or mentor done grabbed someone up by the collar before to get their attention!

You stand there and make eye contact with your coach until he’s finished talking. You don’t walk away.

It’s coaching. And when you trust each other like sumerall does and his players do. You can do things like that and not have any backlash

You stand there and take it because you messed up and your superior is letting you hear about it. If you’re larger than your boss do you just walk away from him when you mess up?

You have to get their attention. If they wanna play on the team and be part of it, they need to be held accountable, and if you just try to walk by the coach and go back to your seat and not wanna talk, then that’s the wrong attitude. I don’t see anything that he did wrong. He wanted to make sure that the player listened and not walk away from him. There was no abuse, there was no bad intent. That’s part of sports. He might do that to that player because that might be the way that that player listens. He might have a different approach for another player.

It’s a power dynamic. When coach chews you out you stand there and take it. Same thing the coach did when he was a player. If you disrespect that and walk away you get grabbed. If you disrespect that grab and swat the hand then you’re off the team. While I agree that the coach shouldn’t be grabbing players, the issue begins with the player walking away, not the coach. I also highly doubt he brings any charges, they still care about the players even when they need to stand on their rules.

Time for you to realize what reality is and realize this is football and it happens, that’s good coaching and keeps player true and honest to mistake. I want my coach to let every player know there mistake when it’s needs to be done to grow

You’re wrong, buddy didn’t want to hear what sumrall had to say maybe due to frustration idk. But if coach is talking to you, chewing your ahh, you stay there and take it like a man and say “yessir my bad”
