The meme is "The 7th Element", a 2001 music video that spent more than a decade without leaving Russia. In June 2015, according to RBTH, a Reddit user posted the video and the West discovered it. On October 11, 2026, the official upload had 75.8 million views. This one is "Opera #2", the song that made him a star in Russia: best-selling single for three years running, from 2001 to 2003. In the original video, from December 2000, he plays a lonely man with gills who lives in a bathtub. There was even a rumor that the gills were real. The recording is from September 19, 2009, live at the Dalian International Fashion Festival in China. He was 30. There, the audience had been his since 2006, when CCTV invited him to sing in Beijing at the event "The Year of Russia in China". That's over 150 shows in the country, and in 2023 China Daily called him "probably the best-known Russian singer in China". On October 11, 2026, this video had 29.2 million views. In other words: when the West discovered him, this performance had already existed for almost six years. Vitas was born in 1979 in Soviet Latvia and raised in Odesa. He is known for his five-octave falsetto. Did you only know the meme or had you already heard "Opera #2"?
