@workplacesurvivor: Open enrollment is about to start. It’s fascinating how incompetent individuals make poor decisions, that cost them and others more and get little for it. An inability to evaluate between two policies. Complete lack of critical thinking and understanding each component that makes up the whole. If you only look at cost and buy into the marketing material, that will always lead to a poor decision. Let’s use insurance as an example; cost is important, but the primary focus should be on what is covered and those coverage costs. That is where you evaluate the value. This happens often in toxic companies, where the decisions are made by individuals that don’t have the skills or capacity to make informed choices for the betterment of the whole company. Make sure you find the best coverage, understand the costs, and evaluate against the marketplace. If a prescription is cheaper using GoodRx, go that way. If your pharmacy has a cheaper price, then use that. Understand what your doctor and specialist charge for a cash rate but understand that rate may be cheaper based on your insurance providers negotiated rate under hybrid or high deductible plans. Premium co-pay plans often cost employees more than high deductible plans. Understand the 'cheapest' plan might cost you more, because it doesn't cover prescriptions or specialist, etc.
