@hiphopofthe90s: Happy birthday to Eminem, who turns 54 today! 🎂🔥 Before “My Name Is,” he finished second at the 1997 Rap Olympics in Los Angeles. An Interscope staff member noticed him, and a copy of his Slim Shady EP eventually reached Jimmy Iovine, who played it for Dr. Dre. The Slim Shady LP became his major-label debut and earned him his first two Grammys: Best Rap Album and Best Rap Solo Performance for “My Name Is.” In 2000, The Marshall Mathers LP sold around 1.76 million copies in the United States in its first week. “The Real Slim Shady,” “The Way I Am” and “Stan” all appeared on that album. “Stan” also became a dictionary word for an extremely devoted fan. The term comes directly from the character in his song. With 8 Mile, he took on a leading film role. “Lose Yourself,” from its soundtrack, became the first rap song to win the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2003. His career includes 15 Grammy wins and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, with Dr. Dre delivering his induction speech. Which Eminem song do you go back to most? 🤔⁉️ 📸: Cian Moore (IG/sweetcian) #rap #hiphop #rapmusic #hiphopmusic #eminem
