First year teacher here. On the first day of school I had to tell my students that if we are on lockdown, they can’t even let one of their friends in the classroom. Even if they know they’re just looking for shelter. I bet they’ve never had to have that conversation.

My state requires a drill once a semester (not even a full lockdown procedure), yet we have had multiple students have w***ons on campus in the couple of years I’ve been there… I’m constantly on high alert. Always. Every single day. We can’t keep doing this

I had to tell my older child to NOT try to find her little brother if that happened, bc she was terrified of him being able to stay quiet bc he’s AUDHD and higher support needs than she is. She said “ but nobody can keep him quiet like I can” and my heart broke when I had to explain to her I needed her to keep herself safe n alive if that happened

Saw this and I'm in disbelief that parents don't believe that this won't happen to their kids. I'm not saying that it SHOULD happen to your kids, I'm saying that you shouldn't be unwary and be absolutely certain that this won't happen because things are so sudden and unforeseen, especially in today's world, please protect your children and teach them to protect themselves and don't trust others
