Salvation is a gift from God received through faith in Jesus Christ, not by works (“For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, not by works” — Ephesians 2:8–9). Through faith in Christ, believers are justified before God (“Since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God” — Romans 5:1). Repentance means a change of mind about sin, agreeing with God that sin is wrong, and genuinely turning away from it. We are saved by grace, not works, but grace is never a license to live in sin. True faith leads us to turn from sin and obey God, though believers still stumble. We must never use grace to justify unrepentant sin. God forgives those who confess their sins to Him (“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us” — 1 John 1:9). When someone believes in Jesus and receives Him as Lord and Savior (“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame” — Romans 10:9–11), God forgives them and begins to transform them through the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the only way to God and the source of eternal life (“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” — John 14:6; Acts 4:12 says, “God has given no other name under heaven by which mankind must be saved”).
